Firefighter Training
If you are interested in becoming a firefighter the department offers training sessions every Monday night. The training sessions include simulations such as car extrications and crawling through smoke-filled buildings. Monday evening is also a chance to go through all of the apparatus and become familiarized with the wide range of tools utilized by the fire department. If members are interested, there are various courses offered in the surrounding areas including Firefighter I and Firefighter II. Taking these courses will give you the knowledge and the training to do interior firefighting on scene in the event of a structure fire. Even if a member is not Firefighter I or II certified, they still have the ability to help out on scene by bringing equipment to the other firefighters, rolling up hose, and many other tasks.
Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Training
If becoming an EMT is something that you are interested in, there are many opportunities for this, as well. Being an EMT you will give you the chance to take part in responding to medical emergency calls that occur in the community. Like the firefighter training, the EMT’s also have training every Monday night where they are educated on new emergency medical procedures and familiarize themselves with the equipment on the ambulance. The surrounding communities offer courses in order to begin the process of becoming a certified EMT. In some instances the fire department will help cover the cost of the training.
Other Volunteer Opportunities
If you are interested in helping out with entertainment and fundraising events, there are many opportunities for that, as well. The biggest fundraising event of the year for the West Redding Volunteer Fire Department is the "Chicken and Steak Dinner" held annually every September. There is no doubt that you will be kept busy with events and fundraising.
